The Slovakian baritone Richard Šveda studied in Bratislava and Graz. He won various prizes at international singing competitions. After a year in the opera studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Richard Šveda became a member of the permanent ensemble in 2010/11. His repertoire includes the Mozart roles Don Giovanni, Almaviva ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Papageno ("Die Zauberflöte"), Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte"), as well as roles such as Marcello / Schaunard (Puccini "La Boheme"), Sharpless (Puccini "Madama Butterfly"), Escamillo (Bizet "Carmen"), Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Albert (Massenet "Werther"), Lord Cecil (Donizetti "Maria Stuarda"), Silvio (Leoncavallo "Pagliacci"), Malatesta (Donizetti "Don Pasquale"), Herr Fluth (Nicolai "The Merry Wives of Windsor"), Don Quixote (de Falla "Master Pedro's Puppet Show"), Barone Douphol (Verdi "La traviata"), Peter (Humperdinck "Hänsel und Gretel") as well as the Wagner roles Gunther ("Götterdämmerung"), Kurwenal ("Tristan und Isolde") and Donner ("Das Rheingold"). Guest engagements have taken him to the Vienna Volksoper, the National Theatre Prague, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, the Opéra Comique Paris, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the New Zealand Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, the Dortmund Opera, the Opéra de Montréal and the Zurich Opera. He has given concerts and recitals at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Vienna Musikverein and the Prinzregententheater in Munich. In the 2022/23 season, Richard Šveda will sing the roles of Sharpless, Frank/Fritz (Korngold's "Die tote Stadt"), Mandarin (Puccini's "Turandot"), Papageno, Peter, Lionel (Tchaikovsky's "Die Jungfrau von Orléans") and Don Giovanni at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
