The Romanian mezzo-soprano Ramona Zaharia studied at the George Enescu College in Iasi and won numerous singing competitions. She was a member of the Timisoara Opera ensemble and performed roles such as Zita (Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi"), Marthe (Gounod's "Faust"), Prince Orlofsky (J. Strauss' "Die Fledermaus"), Fenena (Verdi's "Nabucco"), the Witch (de Falla's "El amor brujo") and Principessa di Bouillon (Cilea's "Adriana Lecouvreur"). Guest performances have taken Ramona Zaharia to the State Operas in Stuttgart, Hamburg and others. In her leading role as Carmen (Bizet) she gave guest performances at the Festival Opera in the Quarry St. Margarethen as well as in Riga, Stuttgart and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the 2018/19 season as Maddalena (Verdi "Rigoletto"). Since the 2014/15 season Ramona Zaharia has been an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she made her celebrated debut as Dalila (Saint-Saëns "Samson et Dalila") alongside Carmen. She has also sung Third Lady (Mozart "The Magic Flute"), Ulrica (Verdi "Un ballo in maschera"), Maddalena, Dinah (Bernstein "Trouble in Tahiti"), Eboli (Verdi "Don Carlo"), Floßhilde (Wagner "Das Rheingold" and "Götterdämmerung"), Erda (Wagner "Rheingold") and Santuzza (Mascagni "Cavalleria rusticana"). In the 2021/22 season she will be on stage at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Carmen, Erda and Die Fürstin von Boullion, among others.
