Diego Leetz

Diego Leetz began his theater career in 1988 at the Berlin State Opera as a lighting technician and worked as a lighting inspector after his master's degree. His work at the Berlin State Opera includes Abraham's "Flower of Hawaii" (director: Andrea Schwalbach), Haydn's "Il mondo della luna" (director: Karoline Gruber), Verdi's "La forza del destino" (director: Stefan Herheim) and Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" (director: Karsten Wiegand). In recent years he has worked as a lighting designer on various productions in Germany and abroad with renowned directors such as Stefan Herheim, Barrie Kosky, Torsten Fischer, Kirill Serebrennikov, Alvis Hermanis, Viestur Kairish, Benedict Andrews, Stefan Huber, Jasmina Hadziahmetovic and Lydia Steier. Under the direction of Günter Krämer, Diego Leetz created the lighting design for "Das Rheingold" and "Die Walküre" in 2010 and for "Siegfried" and "Die Götterdämmerung" at the Opéra National de Paris in 2011, where Richard Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" was performed again after more than 50 years in 2013 to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth. Since the 2012/13 season, he has been engaged as Artistic Director and Head of Lighting at the Komische Oper Berlin, where he has since been responsible for the lighting of all new productions. Among others, he developed the lighting design for "American Lulu" (Neuwirth), "Die Bajadere" (Kálmán), "Clivia" (Dostal), "Der feurige Engel" (Prokofiev), "Die schöne Helena" (Offenbach), "Ein Sommernachtstraum" (Pears/Britten) and "Die Zauberflöte" (Mozart), which can also be experienced at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, directed by Barrie Kosky.
