Roman Hoza

Born in the Czech Republic in 1990, baritone Roman Hoza studied at the Janáček Academy in Brno and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He also attended several master classes. He has won several first prizes at various international competitions. In 2015/16 he was a member of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and was be heard as Moralès (Bizet "Carmen") or Marullo (Verdi "Rigoletto"), among others. From 2016 he was a permanent ensemble member at the National Theatre in Brno. Guest engagements have taken him to Vienna, Lyon, Gothenburg, Cologne, Kaiserslautern, Ostrava, Prague and the Salzburg Festival, among others. His repertoire focuses on roles such as Figaro (Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia"), the Mozart parts Don Giovanni, Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte"), Papageno ("Die Zauberflöte") as well as the parts Belcore (Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore"), Marcello (Puccini's "La Bohème") or Count Danilo (Lehár's "Die lustige Witwe"). Roman Hoza is also a sought-after interpreter of baroque music and art song and works with Collegium 1704, among others. With the 2020/21 season he joined the ensemble of Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he has since appeared on stage as Chaim (Weinberg "Mazel Tov! We congratulate!"), Müller (Montsalvatge "Puss in Boots"), Kuligin (Janáček "Katja Kabanova") and others. In the 2022/23 season Roman Hoza will take on the roles of Belcore, Count Almaviva (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro"), Papageno and Justus in Lucia Ronchetti's world premiere of "Das fliegende Klassenzimmer" and others. He can also be heard in a song matinee and sings regularly at the Janáček Theatre in his home town of Brno.
