Shengwu Ou

Born in China in 1994, tenor Shengwu Ou graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the Xianghai Conservatory of Music in 2017. From 2020 to 2021 he was an academist in the Young Artists Programme of the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Florentino. In 2022 he completed his training with the concert exam with Prof. Snežana Stamenković at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim. He took part in various masterkusen, was a scholarship holder of the Leiminer Foundation and received the "Young Artists" sponsorship award from the Friends of the Schlossfestspiele and Stadtwerke Ettlingen. He is a prize-winner of various international singing competitions and most recently won the international "Concorso Lirico Giuseppe di Stefano" in May 2023. In addition to a number of engagements at Italian theatres, Shengwu Ou made guest appearances in the role of The Young Gentleman in Philippe Boesmans' "Reigen" at the Wilhelma Theatre in Stuttgart and the National Theatre in Mannheim, among others, as Tamino (Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte") at the Ettlingen Castle Festival, as Rinuccio (Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi") at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, as Ernesto (Donizetti's "Don Pasquale") at the Teatro Unione Viterbo. In concerts he performed with the Philharmonie Baden-Baden and the Kammeroper München, among others.
Shengwu Ou has been a member of the Opera Studio of Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2022/23 season and has presented himself in the roles of Prince of Persia (Puccini "Turandot"), 1st Armoured Man (Mozart "The Magic Flute"), Poisson (Cilea "Adriana Lecouvreur"), Il Conte di Lerma (Verdi "Don Carlo") and Don Curzio (Mozart "Le nozze di Figaro") as well as in concerts. As Gastone (Verdi "La traviata"), Steward of the Marschallin (R. Strauss "Der Rosenkavalier"), 3rd Squire (Wagner "Parsifal"), Prince Yamadori (Puccini "Madama Butterfly") and Johnny (Lucia Ronchetti "Das fliegende Klassenzimmer") he will be on stage here in the 2023/24 season and can also be seen again as Prince of Persia and 1st Armoured Man.
