Content
The aim of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein is to support highly talented young singers from all over the world on their way to an artistic career and to give them the best possible preparation for the profession. This includes regular solo auditions, repertoire development, ensemble rehearsals, role study, audition training, language coaching, scenic workshops and musical master classes.
The two studio members Chorong Kim and Valentin Ruckebier will be joined by five new members at the beginning of the 2022/23 season, who were engaged from a total of over 600 international applications: Sopranos Mara Guseynova (Azerbaijan) and Anna Sophia Theil (Germany), mezzo-soprano Verena Kronbichler and baritone Matteo Guerzé (both from Italy) and tenor Shenwu Ou (China).
One of the core principles of the Opera Studio at Deutsche Oper am Rhein is integration into the ensemble and the rehearsal and performance process in order to give the young singers as much stage practice as possible right from the start. This season, the members of the opera studio are on stage in the following productions: "Hérodiade", "Don Pasquale", "Madama Butterfly", "The Dead City", "Iwein Lion Knight", "Macbeth", "Hansel and Gretel", "The Magic Flute", "Siegfried", "The Maid of Orleans", "Le nozze di Figaro", "L'elisir d'amore", "Don Giovanni", "Das fliegende Klassenzimmer", "Lucia di Lammermoor", "Turandot", "La Fille du régiment", "La sonnambula", "Tosca" and "Die Fledermaus".
The Opera Studio's regular programme includes master classes with internationally renowned artists who work intensively with the Opera Studio for a week each day and pass on their experience as singers and singing teachers to the younger generation. The courses offer the opportunity to ask questions, try things out, focus on specific stylistic or technical issues and work specifically on the repertoire in the protected space of the master class. At the end of the week-long courses, as always, there are the popular master class concerts, in which the audience gets an insight into the repertoire they have worked on and can follow the development of the young talents.
