Joan Anton Rechi

Director Joan Anton Rechi was born in Andorra, studied theatre at the Instituto del Teatro and history at the University of Barcelona. He began his career as an actor in theatre, film and television and has now been working worldwide as a director for many years. He has worked with Willy Decker, Robert Carsen, Herbert Wernicke and Calixto Bieito, among others, with whom he has a close collaboration. He made his opera directing debut in 2003 in Barcelona with Offenbach's "Orphée aux enfers" - since then he has expanded his repertoire from comic to serious opera, operettas, the zarzuela "De lo humano y divino" to musical directing. His directing work has been seen in Madrid, Barcelona, Bogotá, Bilbao, Mainz, Basel, Freiburg, Aachen, Darmstadt, Oberhausen, San Lorenzo del Escorial, San Francisco, Oviedo, Oslo, Coburg, Boston, Chemnitz, Helsinki, Seville, Buenos Aires, Mainz, Lisbon, San Sebastian, San Francisco, Boston, Tel Aviv and at the Castell de Peralada Festival. He also designed the stage and costume design for his production of Gounod's "Faust" at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and was nominated Director of the Year 2008 by opernwelt magazine for his production of "Il barbiere di Siviglia" at the Theater Freiburg.
For the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Joan Anton Rechi has staged "Samson et Dalila" (Saint-Saëns), "Die Csárdásfürstin" (Kálmán), "Werther" (Massenet), "L'elisir d'amore" (Donizetti) and "Madama Butterfly" (Puccini).
