Roman Hoza

Born in the Czech Republic in 1990, baritone Roman Hoza studied in Brno and Vienna and took part in various master classes. He has won several first prizes at various international competitions and was a participant in the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival and the Opera Studio of the Opéra National de Lyon in 2014. In 2015/16 he was a member of the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and could be heard here as Moralès (Bizet "Carmen"), Marullo (Verdi "Rigoletto") or Silvano (Verdi "Un ballo in maschera"), among others. Since 2016 he has been a permanent ensemble member at the National Theatre in Brno. Guest engagements have taken him to Vienna, Lyon, Gothenburg, Cologne, Kaiserslautern, Ostrava, Prague and the Salzburg Festival, among others. His repertoire focuses on roles such as Rossini's Figaro ("Il barbiere di Siviglia") and Dandini ("La Cenerentola"), the Mozart roles Conte Almaviva ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Don Giovanni, Guglielmo ("Così fan tutte"), Papageno ("The Magic Flute") as well as the roles of Belcore (Donizetti "L'elisir d'amore"), Marcello (Puccini "La Bohème") or Count Danilo (Lehár "The Merry Widow"). Roman Hoza is also a sought-after interpreter of baroque music and art song (especially Schumann, Mahler, Ravel, Ibert) and works with Collegium 1704 (Handel "The Messiah", Bach "St. John Passion" and others).

In the 2023/24 season he can be heard here in the new production of Anatevka (Bock) as Mottel, Taddeo in Rossini's "L'italiana in Algeri", Spencer Brydon II in the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's "Septembersonate" and as Papageno. In addition to his engagements in Brno, he also has guest engagements at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the National Theatre in Prague.
