„Figaro, Figaro, Figarooo“: A romantic over-excited endurance run to a dream wedding
Melodramma buffo in two acts (1816)
Libretto by Cesare Sterbini
after "Le barbier de Séville ou la Précaution inutile" by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais
In Italian with German surtitles
approx. 2 ¾ hours, one interval
For all from 12 upwards
Count Almaviva is out courting. Under a false identity – posing as a student by the alias Lindoro – he hopes to win the heart of the confidence-filled Rosina. But there is a problem: the Count is not the only one with his eye on Rosina. Her money-grubbing guardian, Dr Bartolo, also hopes to marry off his wealthy ward. Good advice is hard to come by, and Figaro, the enterprising Barber of Seville, is only too happy to be paid for it in hard cash. With ludicrous schemes, Figaro guides the lovers through all the mix-ups and entanglements to marital bliss.

The turbulent race towards a dream wedding was created by the composer Gioachino Rossini, aged just 23, in the space of only three weeks – a stroke of genius in Italian opera buffa and, thanks to the famous “Figaro” aria, a true classic.
