Hendrik Vestmann

Born in Tartu (Estonia), Hendrik Vestmann studied at the Estonian Academy of Music in Tallinn and with Wolf-Dieter Hauschild at the Karlsruhe University of Music. He received a scholarship from the Bayreuth Festival and attended various master classes. Since 2001, he has conducted numerous orchestras such as the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Bochum and Nuremberg Symphony Orchestras, the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, the Tamperen Philharmonic Orchestra (Finland) and, among many others, the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2012, he undertook a concert tour with the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra to Istanbul. In 2006, he won the Hermann Abendroth Prize in Weimar and was a finalist and special prizewinner of the German Conducting Prize at the Berlin Philharmonie.
From 2004 to 2006, he worked as General Music Director at the theater in Tartu and was appointed First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at Theater Münster in 2006. From 2013 to 2016, he was Chief Conductor of the Bonn Opera. Since the 2016/17 season, Hendrik Vestmann has been General Music Director of the Oldenburg State Theater. He also regularly conducts at the Komische Oper Berlin, whose successful production of “Die Zauberflöte” (Mozart) has taken him to China, South Korea and Taiwan, among other places. Engagements have taken him to the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Ópera Nacional de Chile, Israeli Opera, the Musiktheater im Revier, Staatstheater Hannover as well as the Graz Opera and the Zagreb Philharmonic. He has also undertaken concert tours to Australia and New Zealand.
Hendrik Vestmann has already conducted Mozart's “Le nozze di Figaro” and Puccini's ‘Turandot’ at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and in the 2024/25 season, he conducted the highly acclaimed production of Zemlinsky's “The Chalk Circle” here. In the 2025/26 season, he will return to the opera houses in Düsseldorf and Duisburg to conduct the concert opera performance of Gounod's "The Queen of Sheba" and "Prima la Mamma" by Gaetano Donizetti.
