They were elegant, witty and world-class musicians: the Comedian Harmonists captivated an audience of millions during the Weimar Republic. Six young men – five singers and a pianist – combined flawless harmonies with jazz, wordplay and perfect timing. Songs such as “Veronika, der Lenz ist da”, “Liebling, mein Herz lässt dich grüßen” and “Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus” became catchy tunes and remain so to this day. Yet the ensemble’s rise to fame came to an abrupt end following the Nazis’ seizure of power. Politically oppressed and divided, the group fell apart. Their songs, however, lived on.

This narrated concert tells the story of the “Comedian Harmonists” and brings to life a glittering era of German entertainment history – light-hearted, melancholic and unforgotten.
