With the ensemble since 2020/21
Damián Torío was born in Madrid and trained at the Mariemma Royal Dance Conservatory in his home city. His education was supplemented with summer courses that included the America Ballet Theater and the English National Ballet. From 2013 to 2021 he danced at the Ballet Nacional del Sodre in Montevideo, Uruguay – initially under the direction of Julio Bocca and later under Igor Yebra. Notable roles included Des Grieux in ‘Manon’ (Kenneth MacMillan), Lensky in ‘Onegin’ (John Cranko), both Romeo and Benvolio in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ (Kenneth MacMillan) and James in ‘La Sylphide’ (August Bournonville). He also danced in works choreographed by William Forsythe, Nacho Duato, Jiří Kylián and Demis Volpi.
Since the 2020/21 season, Damián Torío has been a company member of Ballett am Rhein, where he has since appeared in productions including “The Nutcracker”, “Geschlossene Spiele”, and as the Master in “Krabat”. His repertoire also includes William Forsythe’s “Artifact II”, Glen Tetley’s “Voluntaries”, Jean-Christophe Maillot’s “Vers un Pays Sage”, Bridget Breiner’s “Daphnis et Chloé, Suiten”, as well as Hans van Manen’s “Short Cut” and “Visions Fugitives”.
