Jason Tran

Born in 1991, Jason Tran studied music theory, composition, and conducting at the conservatories in Cologne and Düsseldorf. While still a student, the pianist, conductor, composer, and baritone worked as a choir assistant at the Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach from 2013 to 2016. This was followed by an engagement as solo répétiteur with conducting duties at the Staatstheater Darmstadt from 2016 to 2018. Since 2018/19, he has held the same position at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. As a conductor, he has led the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergische Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the student orchestra of the Robert Schumann University of Music, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz State Orchestra, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, and the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra Satu Mare. He has received commissions for compositions and arrangements from the Literaturoper Köln, Deutschlandfunk, and the Cologne University of Music and Dance, among others. As a baritone, he has portrayed Guglielmo (Mozart's “Così fan tutte”), Marcello (Puccini's “La Bohème”), and Escamillo (Bizet's “Carmen”), among others.
Jason Tran regularly performs as a song accompanist and pianist at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He also took on the musical direction of Mozart's “Le nozze di Figaro” and the ballet evening “A Kiss to the World.” In the 2024/25 season, he conducted Rossini's “Il barbiere di Siviglia,” among other works.
