On July 5, 2025, Deutsche Oper am Rhein will bid farewell to its long-standing General Director Prof. Christoph Meyer, who led the two-city institute with its two divisions of opera and ballet from 2009 to 2025, with a grand gala.
More than 40 soloists will take to the stage for his farewell performance, including over 30 members of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ensemble. Together with numerous guests and the choir of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, they will look back on Christoph Meyer's 16-year directorship - each season will be represented by a title. The musical direction is shared by chief conductor Vitali Alekseenok, Wen-Pin Chien, Antonino Fogliani and Axel Kober; the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker will perform.
You can look forward to excerpts from “Peter Grimes”, “Arabella”, “Der Fliegende Holländer”, “Die Walküre”, “Otello”, “Die Fledermaus” and “Orpheus in der Unterwelt”, among others, and to a reunion with guests and former members of the ensemble who have close ties to the house.
