This season, Junge Oper am Rhein is launching a new project: we are starting a choir!
In cooperation with the Clara Schumann Music School
Throughout the entire season, five partner classes from several Düsseldorf schools will work with experienced opera professionals to develop a staged concert. The program includes specially arranged choral melodies from the opera repertoire, new vocal music, and popular songs.
The project is directed at music classes and students with singing experience, but also at children and young people for whom the project is their first contact with choral singing and stage work. In accompanying workshops, the children and teenagers learn the basics of dance, vocal training, choir conducting, and directing. In addition, the students discover opera from a variety of perspectives: as an audience, behind the scenes, and actively on stage.
On July 6, 2026, the opera house will then belong to the roughly 200 young musicians for one evening. After a year of rehearsals together, the highlight of the project will be a public concert on the main stage, where the young singers will be accompanied by the Clara Schumann Players, the youth orchestra of the Clara Schumann Music School.
