Alon Cohen, born in Jerusalem in 1970, is a lighting designer, programmer, technical director, and consultant. He has been living in Germany since 2021.
As a teenager, he became involved in stage and performing arts through his father, a crew member at the local Jerusalem Theatre, and was soon drawn into the profession himself.
Inspired by Pink Floyd’s 1994 live concert and its lighting designer Marc Brickman, he became increasingly engaged in the development of lighting control systems. He began working closely with lighting designer Avi Yona (Bambi) Bueno, who became his mentor and most significant professional influence.
Since the early 2000s, Cohen has worked as a programmer and designer for Israel’s national and municipal theatres — "Habimah" and "Cameri" — as well as for the beat ensemble "Mayumana", the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and prime-time television shows such as "Dancing With the Stars", "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", "The Voice", and "The X Factor". His work also includes numerous commercial and corporate events, both nationally and internationally.
He has collaborated with companies such as the Batsheva Dance Company and the Israeli National Ballet, and with choreographers including Yasmeen Godder and Inbal Pinto. In addition, he has taught and mentored lighting students and frequently served as Bambi’s head programmer and assistant.
Today, Cohen designs lighting for Sharon Eyal’s dance company L-E-V and her independent projects worldwide. He also works with companies such as Germany’s Tanzmainz and Staatsballett Berlin, Austria’s "Salzburger Festspiele", Sweden’s Royal Opera Stockholm and Royal Opera Gothenburg, France’s Opéra National de Paris, and the Netherlands Dance Theater (NDT).
