Ovidiu Purcel studied in his native country Romania at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca with Marius Vlad Budoiu and won numerous prizes in national competitions. In 2011, the tenor was a member of the opera studio at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and joined the ensemble a year later, where he has already performed in several roles. Guest engagements have taken him to Prague and Tel Aviv, the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, the Opéra Garnier in Paris, the Theater Dortmund, and the National Theater in Prague, among others. Under the baton of Kent Nagano, he performed Verdi's “Requiem” with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and in 2021 he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival as Duca di Mantova (Verdi's “Rigoletto”). He regularly appears at the Leipzig Opera as Alfredo Germont (Verdi “La traviata”).

Ovidiu Purcel's roles for the 2025/26 season at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein include Don José (Bizet's “Carmen”) and Alfred (J. Strauss (son)'s “Die Fledermaus”).
