Dance Off

A playful battle, an exchange of the highest calibre – and a celebration of the diversity of dance. When different worlds of dance collide, it creates tension, energy and, at times, a good-natured show of strength. “Dance Off” brings professional dancers from various styles together on one stage: classical ballet meets urban dance forms such as hip-hop, breakdance and house.

Here, some seem to spin effortlessly in precise pirouettes on their pointe shoes, whilst others take over the dance floor with headspins, freezes and acrobatic power moves. Where classical pas de deux features weightless lifts, balance and finely calibrated intimacy, other dance styles respond with a grounded presence, clear direction and improvised physical dialogue.

“Dance Off” takes place right in the centre of the stage at Theater Duisburg. The audience surrounds the dance arena, is right up close, becomes part of the action, cheers, reacts, applauds and contributes to the energy of the moment. This is not about right or wrong, nor about points or rules – but about presence, skill and the moment.
