Sound on!

Anna Konjetzky’s new piece for young audiences straddles the line between dance and concert. A rap of feminist voices – wild, thoughtful, rebellious – that calls out: Turn up the volume, be brave, believe in yourself, stand up for yourself and your friends! Three dancers and a singer are searching for their place in the world. Using their bodies, a live camera, beats and their voices, they set out in search of role models, form communities, want to be seen and heard, and allow themselves to be different. They challenge injustices – with power and joy. Quotes, video and music are sampled into a collage of protest, in which the echo of many and multilingual voices resounds through the ages into the present: It’s cool to be a feminist!

Following their successful collaboration on the classroom play “Echtzeitgefühl,” composer Sergej Maingardt and Duisburg-based singer Florence Mankenda are now appearing at the Duisburg Theatre with “Sound on!”. The production was developed in collaboration with the Junge Oper and various school classes from Duisburg and Düsseldorf.
