Ever since his mother has had a new partner, Philipp has felt left out. He’s also annoyed by his stepsister Lucy, who is now supposed to be part of his family. To take his mind off things, he builds his own world out of toys—which one night transforms into a real, inhabited city. But even here, he can’t find any peace: Lucy has secretly followed him. The city’s inhabitants believe in an ancient prophecy and see the two newcomers as the foretold “Destroyer” and the long-awaited “Savior.” But which of the two is which? Lucy and Philipp embark on all sorts of adventures together, encountering dragons and pirates, and ultimately face an even greater threat…
Composed by Samuel Penderbayne, this adventurous family opera—based on the children’s book of the same name by Edith Nesbit—transcends genres and enchants audiences with a sound that ranges from musical to classical opera.
