Alexey Zelenkov was born in Uzbekistan and has been the leading baritone at the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT) since 2014. He studied at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory and received his diploma in 2015. His extensive repertoire at various opera houses includes many leading roles as a baritone.
In May 2022, Alexey Zelenkov made his German debut as Michonnet in a new production of Francesco Cilea's “Adriana Lecouvreur” at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he has since appeared in various other roles, including Scarpia in Puccini's “Tosca.” As a guest soloist, he appeared under the baton of Maestro Valery Gergiev at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow as Rigoletto and Amonaso, and in 2022 in a new production of “Iolanta” at the Theater Kiel as Ibn-Hakia, as well as in 2023 in the revival of “Il barbiere di Siviglia” (Bartolo) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2024, he appeared as Scarpia (“Tosca”) at the Badisches Staatstheater; he sang the same role in the 2024/25 season at the Aalto-Theater Essen. In September 2025, he will make his role debut as Jago at Staatstheater Hannover.
Alexey Zelenkov won second place in the José Carreras Competition in 2021 and is also a three-time winner of the prestigious Onegin Award (2017, 2020, and 2023). He received the 2017 “Paradise” Theater Award for his portrayals of Renato, Tomsky, and Tonio, and again in 2018 for his portrayal of the title role in Bartók's “Bluebeard's Castle”.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Alexey Zelenkov will once again take on the role of Scarpia in Puccini's “Tosca” in the 2025/26 season, and also appear in Puccini's opera cycle “Il trittico” in the roles of Gianni Schicchi and Michele. He will furthermore reprise the title role in the Duisburg premiere of “Nabucco”.
