Metalwork meets powerful sound: the opera saga continues
Second Day of the Stage Festival "Der Ring des Nibelungen"
Text by the composer
In German with surtitles
approx. 5 ½ hours, two intervals
For all from 14 upwards
Unaware of his origins, Siegfried is raised by the grumpy dwarf Mime. The latter plans to use his strong and fearless foster son to steal the treasure guarded by Fafner – including the ring and the helmet of invisibility – and then kill Siegfried. But Siegfried sees through Mime’s murderous intentions, slays him and follows the call of the Forest Bird to a mysterious woman sleeping on a rock. Thus he finds and frees Brünnhilde. Can Wotan’s favourite daughter and the “pure fool” escape the curse of the Ring?

Richard Wagner’s tale of Siegfried is the centrepiece of the “Ring” tetralogy. Siegfried is not only Wagner’s favourite creation, but through him, for the duration of this opera, the notion that all will turn out alright becomes a tangible possibility. Yet the conflagration of the world can no longer be stopped...
