In Ballet Up Close, young people and adults can try their hand at dancing and explore pieces from the programme. After attending a rehearsal, guests have the opportunity to learn characteristic movements from a ballet choreography, thereby discovering ideas from the repertoire in a new way through their own bodies. This provides them with an insight into the creative process behind a ballet performance.

Two big names stand side by side in this evening’s exploration of intensity, physicality and the courage to rethink movement: William Forsythe pushes the classical ballet vocabulary to its limits with surprising, raw and electrifying dynamism. Sharon Eyal, set to the pulsating electronic sounds of Ori Lichtik, explores the tension between control and ecstatic desire through hypnotic patterns.

With “Don Quijote” Marius Petipa created one of the most colourful ballets in the classical repertoire: Kitri, the innkeeper’s daughter, and Basilio, the barber, fight for their happiness with wit and verve, accompanied by Don Quijote and his faithful Sancho Panza. In Marcelo Gomes’ new version, the striking elements of the original are preserved. Focusing on the characters and their emotions, he presents a dazzling display of ballet virtuosity.
