John B. Read

John B. Read is one of the most important lighting designers of our time and has made a name for himself primarily in dance, where he established lighting as an integral component. Closely associated with the Royal Ballet in London from 1981 to 2005, he designed the lighting concepts for “Swan Lake”, “The Nutcracker”, “The Snow Queen”, “Mayerling”, “Anastasia”, “Frankenstein”, “La Bayadère” and “The Prince of the Pagodas”, among others. John B. Read was also lighting designer for the Royal Opera Covent Garden London and the Birmingham Royal Ballet. He worked with leading choreographers such as Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan, Antony Tudor, Glen Tetley, Jerome Robbins, Rudolf Nureyev, Anthony Dowell, David Bintley, Natalia Makarova, Ronald Hynde, Christopher Bruce, Wayne Eagling, Ulysses Dove and Ashley Page.
John B. Read is a regular guest with major companies worldwide, including the Bavarian State Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Vienna State Ballet, Ballet de l'Opéra national de Paris, Ballet of the Stanislavski Theatre Moscow, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, American Ballet Theatre and, in the field of contemporary dance, the Rambert Dance Company, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, London City Ballet, London Festival Ballet and Scottish Ballet.
