Mezzo-soprano Victoria Karkacheva comes from Volgograd, studied at the Popov Academy of Choral and is a graduate of the prestigious Young Artist Programme at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. She made her operatic debut as Aglaya in a new production of Mieczysław Weinberg's "The Idiot".
She won the Birgit Nilsson Prize and 1st Prize at the 2021 Operalia Competition and is a winner of the 2020 Tenor Viñas Competition. She then made her house and role debut at the Opéra national de Lyon as Judith in a new production of "Bluebeard's Castle". In the role of Laura in "Iolanta" she appeared in concert performances with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko in Berlin and Baden-Baden. As a member of the Verbier Festival Academy, she sang the 3rd Lady ("Die Zauberflöte") and A Voice from Above ("Die Frau ohne Schatten"). As Emilia in "Otello" she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera in the 2021/22 season, where she has been a member of the ensemble since the 2022/23 season and sang Olga in "Eugene Onegin", Flora in "La traviata" and Hélène Bezukhova in Dmitri Tcherniakov's new production of Prokofiev's "War and Peace", among others.
Victoria Karkacheva's current and upcoming engagements include Charlotte ("Werther") at Teatro alla Scala, the title role of "Carmen" at Teatro di San Carlo Naples and Olga ("Eugene Onegin") at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
