Thorsten Grümbel

Thorsten Grümbel was born in Kiel and studied singing in Lübeck and Detmold. He made his debut in 1993 at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin and has been singing a diverse repertoire at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 1999. His repertoire now includes over 90 roles in his field. In the meantime, he was a member of the Frankfurt Opera ensemble for three years, where he was primarily entrusted with Italian repertoire. Engagements have taken Thorsten Grümbel to over 80 opera and concert stages worldwide, including Paris, Vienna, Zurich, New York, Barcelona, London, and well-known festivals in Savonlinna, Aix-en-Provence, Ludwigsburg, and St. Margarethen. Extensive radio, CD, and DVD recordings document his versatile career. Most recently, Thorsten Grümbel appeared as Sarastro (Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte”) at the Semperoper in Dresden, Lille, and Kiel in 2020, as Frank (J. Strauss (Sohn) “Die Fledermaus”) at the Hamburg State Opera, in 2022 as Falstaff (Nicolai's “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor”) at the Berlin State Opera, and in 2024 as Gurnemanz (Wagner's “Parsifal”) at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.

In the 2025/26 season, the Intendant (Donizetti's “Prima la Mamma!”), as well as Hunding (Wagner's “Die Walküre”), Sarastro (Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte”), Prison Director Frank (J. Strauss (son) “Die Fledermaus”) and Bartolo (Mozart's “Le nozze di Figaro”) will be among his roles.
