Katerina von Bennigsen

Katerina von Bennigsen, who grew up in Hamburg, was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden from 2018 to 2024. There she performed major roles in her field, including Gretel in “Hänsel and Gretel”, Susanna in “Le nozze di Figaro”, Musetta in “La Bohème”, Ännchen in “Der Freischütz”, Blonde in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”, Despina in “Così fan tutte”, Amanda in “Le Grand Macabre”, Scintilla in “Satyricon”, Adele in “Die Fledermaus”, Gretchen in “Der Wildschütz” and Wanda in “Die Grossherzogin von Gerolstein”.
For the 2024/25 season, the soprano moved to Theater Bonn, where she appeared as Adina in the new production of “L'elisir d'amore”, Pamina in “The Magic Flute”, Gretel in “Hänsel und Gretel”, Hannah in the world premiere of “Die Blaue Sau” and Silwana in “Musik für die Lebenden”. She made her house debut at the Aalto Theatre in Essen in September 2025 with the role of Gilda in the premiere of “Rigoletto”.
Guest engagements have taken her to numerous renowned theatres, including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Cologne Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Leipzig Opera, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Bühnen Halle, the Theater Magdeburg, the Gärtnerplatztheater Munich, the Theater Kiel, the Staatstheater Cottbus and the Teatro Communale di Modena. There she appeared as Gilda in “Rigoletto”, Pamina in “The Magic Flute”, Sophie in “Der Rosenkavalier”, Zerlina in “Don Giovanni”, Marzelline in “Fidelio”, Jemmy in “Guillaume Tell”, Fiakermilli in “Arabella”, Olympia in “The Tales of Hoffmann”, Adele in “Die Fledermaus” and Joanna in “Sweeney Todd”.
Throughout her career, Katerina von Bennigsen has worked with outstanding conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Omer Meir Wellber, Stefano Ranzani, Paolo Arrivabeni, John Fiore, Jonathan Darlington, Konrad Junghänel, Srba Dinić, Alexander Soddy, Petr Popelka and Anna Skryleva.
Katerina von Bennigsen completed her vocal studies at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre with Prof. KS Hanna Schwarz, Prof. Carolyn James and Prof. Burkhard Kehring, specialising in lieder. While still a student, the talented singer made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera as Bubikopf in “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” and appeared in several productions of the opera studio. Masterclasses with renowned artists such as Montserrat Caballé, Edda Moser, Helen Donath, Margreet Honig and John Norris rounded off her training.
