Suzanne Andrade
Director

Suzanne Andrade, together with Paul Barritt, forms the award-winning theater company "1927", integrating performance, music and animation into their theatrical work. For ten years, the two (with their colleagues Esme Appleton and Lillian Henley) have been working together on their unique theatrical style, which is influenced by their love of silent film and animation. The year 1927 is the year of the first sound film: "The Jazz Singer with Al Jolson". For more than a decade now, "1927" has been dealing with theatrical intertwinements of live performance, live music and animation. Suzanne Andrade wrote and directed the three successful shows "Between the devil and the deep blue sea", "The animals and children took to the streets" and "Golem". "Golem," with music by Lillian Henley, premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 2014. With their shows, "1927" have not only won numerous awards, but have also toured halfway around the globe. Awards include Herald Angel, Fringe First, Carol Tambor, Arches Brick, Total Theatre, Off West End, Critics Circle and the Peter Brook Empty Space Ensemble Award. In 2015, Suzanne Andrade and Paul Barritt were named on the Progress 1000 list of the most important people in London and on The Stage 100 List of the most influential artists in British theater. Suzanne Andrade's operatic debut was "The Magic Flute" for Komische Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, which she co-directed with Barrie Kosky. Most recently, she co-produced an evening of Stravinsky's "Petrushka" and Ravel's "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges" with Komische Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
