Polish mezzo-soprano Maria Polańska has been a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2024/25 season. There, she has appeared in roles including Olga (Tchaikovsky's “Eugen Onegin”), Second Lady (Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte”), Floßhilde (Wagner's “Das Rheingold”), Mercédès (Bizet's “Carmen”), Dorothea (Donizetti's “Prima la mamma!”) and Sonjetka (Shostakovich's “Lady Macbeth of Mzensk”). She completed her vocal studies in Krakow and Stuttgart. Prior to that, she was a member of the opera studio at the National Theatre in Mannheim, where she appeared as the Third Lady, Mercédès, Fyodor, Dryad, and Floßhilde (Wagner's “Rheingold”, “Götterdämmerung”), among others. She has a particular interest in early music: in 2022/23, she sang Lesbia in Grétry's “Zemira e Azor” with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Maria des Kleophas in Händel's “Resurrezione” under Wolfgang Katschner.

In the 2025/26 season, she will make her debut as Hänsel (Humperdinck's “Hänsel und Gretel”), Prince Orlofsky (J. Strauss' “Die Fledermaus”), Cherubino (Mozart's “Le nozze di Figaro”) and First Maid (R. Strauss' “Elektra”) and will also perform in “Carmen” and “Prima la Mamma!” again, as well as in the matinee “Sehnsucht & Klangpoesie” with a Slavic concert repertoire.
