Marc Weeger

Marc Weeger studied under Jürgen Rose at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. He has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer since 2003. The directors he works with include Andrea Breth (Tchaikovsky's “Eugene Onegin” at the Salzburg Festival, Janáček's “Katya Kabanova” at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Berg's "Wozzeck" at the Staatsoper im Schiller Theater Berlin, Prokofiev's “The Gambler” at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam), Christof Nel (three one-act plays by Henze at the Prinzregententheater Munich), Matthias Kaschig (Marivaux's “The Dispute” at the Theater Bonn, Stephens' "Port" at the Volkstheater Munich), Jim Lucassen (Mozart's “Così fan tutte” at the Opéra Lorraine Nancy), Tanja Richter (Shakespeare's “Twelfth Night” at the Neues Theater Halle), Rudolf Frey (Verdi's “Nabucco” at the Staatsoper Stuttgart), Jörg Behr (Britten's “Peter Grimes” at the Oper Aachen, Hindemith's "Cardillac" and Euripides' “Helena", Purcell/Maderna's “Meeting Dido” at the Theater Augsburg, Strauss' “Ariadne auf Naxos” at the Oper Freiburg) and Tatjana Gürbaca (Donizetti's “Lucia di Lammermoor,” Massenet's "Werther" and “Manon", Smetana's “The Bartered Bride,” Verdi's “Un ballo in maschera” at the Mainz State Theater, Wagner's “The Flying Dutchman” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Tchaikovsky's “Mazeppa", “The Enchantress", and “Eugene Onegin” at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp). Together with Silke Willrett, he has been nominated several times in Die Deutsche Bühne as best stage and costume designer.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Weeger was responsible for the set design of Sebastian Schwab's “Holle!” in the 2024/25 season and, in the same role, is collaborating with Jörg Behr on the new production “So oder so oder so” in the current season.
