Aron Stiehl

Born in Wiesbaden, Aron Stiehl studied musical theatre directing with Götz Friedrich at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, graduating with distinction. From 1996 to 2001 he was engaged as a stage manager at the Bavarian State Opera and has worked as a director ever since. In 2007, he staged Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" in Tel Aviv with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta. Mehta also engaged him to direct Wagner's Götterdämmerung with La Fura dels Baus in Florence and Valencia in 2009. In 2013 he staged Wagner's Das Liebesverbot at the Bayreuth Festival in a co-production with the Leipzig Opera. Aron Stiehl has also directed at the Grosses Festspielhaus/Landestheater Salzburg, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Staatstheater Saarbrücken, the Leipzig Opera and at opera houses in St. Gallen, Halle, Magdeburg, Bern, Bielefeld, Erfurt, Meiningen, Heidelberg, Coburg, Oldenburg, Münster, Augsburg, Görlitz, Kaiserslautern, Passau, Halberstadt, Flensburg, Eisenach, Klagenfurt, Bonn and Vienna, among others. His directing work has also been seen at the Tollwood Festival in Munich as well as at the Gasteig in Munich and the Kammeroper Hamburg, among others. He has been artistic director of the Stadttheater Klagenfurt since the 2020/21 season.
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Aron Stiehl is responsible for directing Eggert's "Iwein Löwenritter".
