Silke Willrett

Silke Willrett studied art history at the State Academy of Fine Arts in her hometown of Stuttgart and stage and costume design with Moritz Baumgartl, Sotirious Michou and Jürgen Rose. Since 2001, she has been working freelance and has been nominated several times as best stage and costume designer by the magazines Opernwelt and Die Deutsche Bühne. She has worked with directors such as Andrea Breth, Jörg Behr, Jim Lucassen, Christof Nel, Moniques Wagemakers and Johannes Erath. With Tatjana Gürbaca in particular, she conceived a large number of works such as "Rigoletto" (Verdi) at the Graz Opera, "Le Grand Macabre" (Ligeti), "Don Giovanni" (Mozart) and "Das schlaue Füchslein" (Janáček) at the Bremen Theatre, Massenet's "Werther" and "Manon", Smetana's "The Bartered Bride", Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera" and Handel's "Rinaldo" at the Staatstheater Mainz, "The Flying Dutchman" (Wagner) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Tchaikovsky's "Mazeppa", "The Enchantress" and "Eugene Onegin" at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Bizet's "Carmen" at the Leipzig Opera, also "Die tote Stadt" (Korngold) at the Cologne Opera, "Der Freischütz" (Weber), "Simon Boccanegra" (Verdi) and "Lohengrin" (Wagner) at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, "Ulisse" (Dallapicolla) at the Frankfurt Opera, "Der ferne Klang" (Schreker) at the Nationaltheater Mannhein and, among other productions, "Rigoletto", "Werther", Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor", Verdi's "Aida" and Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" at the Zurich Opera. Silke Willrett, whose costume design for Wagner's "Lohengrin" at the Aalto Theater Essen was nominated for the FAUST Theatre Prize in 2017, also works as a set designer and costume designer for film productions in Stuttgart and Berlin.
Silke Willrett's work has already been seen several times in various productions at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In renewed collaboration with Tatjana Gürbaca, she created her costume design for Janáček's "Jenůfa".
