Jason Tran

Born in 1991, Jason Tran studied music theory, composition, and conducting at the music conservatories in Cologne and Düsseldorf. During his studies, the pianist, conductor, composer, and baritone worked as a choral assistant at the Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach from 2013 to 2016. He subsequently held a position as a solo répétiteur with conducting duties at the Staatstheater Darmstadt from 2016 to 2018 and has served in the same capacity at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2018/19 season. As a conductor he has led the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Duisburg Philharmonic, the Bergische Symphoniker, the Staatstheater Darmstadt Orchestra, the Robert Schumann Hochschule student orchestra, the Rheinische Philharmonie State Orchestra (Koblenz), the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, and the Satu Mare State Philharmonic (Romania). He has received commissions for compositions and arrangements from institutions such as Literaturoper Köln, Deutschlandfunk, and the University of Music and Dance Cologne. As a baritone, his roles have included Guglielmo (Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”), Marcello (Puccini’s “La Bohème”), Escamillo (Bizet’s “Carmen”), and Peter (Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel”). He frequently appears at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as a song accompanist and pianist. Furthermore, he has taken on the musical direction of productions including Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”, Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, and the ballet program “A Kiss to the World”.
In the 2026/27 season, Jason Tran will serve as musical director for Weill’s “Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny” at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Furthermore he appears as part of the “Symphoniker im Foyer” series, as well as serving as pianist and musical director for Tom Smith’s “So oder so oder so”.
