Ramona Zaharia, who comes from Romania, studied at the George Enescu University of Music in Iaşi. She has won numerous singing competitions. Her international career began at the Romanian National Opera in Timişoara, where she performed several roles. At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, she made her acclaimed debut as Dalila (Saint-Saëns' “Samson et Dalila”) in addition to the title role in Bizet's “Carmen” and other roles. Guest engagements have taken her to major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Hamburg, the National Opera in Bucharest, the National Theater in Prague, the Latvian National Opera in Riga, and the Opera in the Quarry Festival in St. Margarethen. She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in the 2018/19 season as Maddalena (Verdi’s “Rigoletto”).
At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Ramona Zaharia will sing Azucena (Verdi's “Il trovatore”), Fenena (Verdi's “Nabucco”), the Princess (Puccini's “Suor Angelica”), and her signature role, Carmen, in the 2025/26 season.
