These three impressive signature styles kick off with “Four Schumann Pieces” by the Dutch grand master Hans van Manen. It is a ballet full of romance and elegance, in which the drama of emotional states, dreams, desires and fears is counterpointed with the clear movement language so typical of van Manen.
David Dawson's “Empire Noir” transports us into a world shimmering with energy. Rapid and relentless on his own journey through the darkness of the night, the acrobatic pas de deux, the constant change of formations and the driving beat of Greg Haines' composition take your breath away.
In “Biolographie”, Bridget Breiner, guided by Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, creates three loosely connected worlds that all deal with the question of what shapes us.
