Following her role and house debut in Antonín Dvořák's “Rusalka” at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the American soprano Nicole Chevalier will next make her debut in the title roles of Vincenzo Bellini's “Norma” and Richard Strauss' “Salome”. Highlights of her career to date include her debuts at the Festival d'Aix en Provence, where she played Elettra in a new production of Mozart's “Idomeneo”, as well as Despina in Dmitri Tcherniakov's new production of “Così fan tutte” at the Salzburg Festival and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. She appeared at the Teatro Real Madrid as Eva in Richard Wagner's “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, at the Hamburg State Opera in Calixto Bieito's new production of Carl Orff's “Trionfi”, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and at the Berlin State Opera, where she demonstrated her versatility in roles such as Vitellia in “La clemenza di Tito” and Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni”.
Nicole Chevalier made her debut at the London Coliseum for English National Opera (ENO) in a staged one-woman-show version of Henryk Górecki's “Symphony of Sad Songs” and as Violetta in the legendary one-woman-show production directed by Benedikt von Peter. She sang the title role in Thea Musgrave's “Maria, Queen of Scots” at the Leipzig Opera, Agathe in Christoph Marthaler's new production of Weber's “Der Freischütz” at the Theater Basel, Leonore in “Fidelio” (1806) directed by Christoph Waltz and in “Thaïs” with Peter Konwitschny at the Theater an der Wien. This was followed by the title role in Jacques Offenbach's “La belle Hélène”, Handel's “Semele” and Aribert Reimann's “Medea” at the Komische Oper Berlin; the Four Heroines in Krzysztof Warlikowski's production of “Les Contes d'Hoffmann” at La Monnaie Brussels and at the Greek National Opera in Athens - roles for which she was awarded the “Der Faust” theater prize for best performing artist in Germany in Barrie Kosky's production of “Les Contes d'Hoffmann” in Berlin.
The production with Nicole Chevalier in Schönberg's “Pierrot Lunaire” with Kent Nagano at the Hamburg State Opera was recorded for the Berlin Biennale in 2020. Her interpretations of “Thaïs” and Leonore are available on DVD. In 2023, Deutsche Grammophon/Universal released Mozart's “Alcandro, lo confesso” in a recording with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
