Thomas Herzog

            Thomas Herzog was born in Basel in 1972. The Swiss national with Hungarian roots studied percussion, composition and conducting. From 2014 to 2024, he conducted over a dozen productions as a permanent ballet conductor at Theater Basel. Since 2019, he has regularly conducted ballets at the Semperoper Dresden and the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.
In the concert field, he prefers to devote himself to contemporary music as well as Spanish composers, especially the zarzuela genre. A further focus of his activities are educational projects of various kinds. Since 2010, he has realized several project series with the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Basel Symphony Orchestra, including various world premieres and staged productions.
For over 15 years, Thomas Herzog has been a regular guest conductor with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo in Uruguay and the symphony orchestras in Miskolc, Szeged and Szombathely in Hungary. He has made several guest appearances with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra in Budapest, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Saarländisches Staatstheater and the Bern Symphony Orchestra. He recently made his debuts with the Spanish Radio Orchestra RTVE in Madrid, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, the Opéra National du Rhin and the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. In the 2024/25 season, he can be heard for the first time at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Aalto Theater Essen.
