Article 1
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
The 1948 Charter of Human Rights is one of the most frequently translated texts in the world and contains a fundamental idea: all people are equal, free, and valuable.
Under the title “The Voice of Humanity” – a quote from Beethoven's opera of freedom, “Fidelio” – hundreds of singing citizens of Duisburg will gather on September 20 at 5 p.m. on the square in front of the theater to join an ensemble of singers, actors, dancers, and, of course, the audience to “awaken” and unearth the “giant of human rights” who sleeps beneath Opernplatz/König Heinrich-Platz – with music, text, sound, movement, emotion, community, and a composition by Israeli composer Amir Shpilmann for a 300-member choir, which also invites all audience members to sing along.
Starting on September 2, Opernplatz will gradually be transformed into a gathering and declamation place for human rights through a series of additional events (see below for the supporting program) – it will become a playground for all human rights giants: everyone is invited to share their thoughts, collaborate, engage in conversation, and get creative.
The “Sound Cell of Human Rights”
As part of the season opening, the “Sound Cell of Human Rights” will also be unveiled, an installation on the theme of human rights in the form of a bright red telephone booth, which will be on display at Opernplatz from September 20 until mid-December, inviting visitors to linger, listen, reflect, and make their own statements.
