Weih­nach­ten mit Freun­den

Let us give you a rich musical gift before Christmas! Once again this year, the "Christmas with Friends" concert offers the opportunity to experience the young singers of the opera studio, which is specially sponsored by the Freundeskreis, on the big stage:

Together with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, Bogdana Bevziuk, Mara Guseynova, Anna Sophia Theil, Verena Kronbichler, Jakob Kleinschrot, Matteo Guerzé and Valentin Ruckebier present a festive pre-Christmas programme with well-known and popular music from oratorios by George Frideric Handel ("Samson" and "The Messiah") Johann Sebastian Bach ("Christmas Oratorio"), Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy ("Elijah"), Camille Saint-Saëns ("Oratorio de Noël") and the C minor Mass by Wolfgang A. Mozart. From the operatic repertoire come Christmas sounds with the prelude to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Night before Christmas" and vocal ensembles from "La Bohème" and "Hansel and Gretel", before the evening draws to a close with Adolphe Adam's well-known "Cantique de Noël" ("O Holy Night").

The musical director is Vitali Alekseenok, First Kapellmeister and Deputy GMD of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Our former opera director Stephen Harrison will be the charming and knowledgeable host of the evening, which will begin with an official farewell to Prof. Dr Dieter H. Vogel, Chairman of the Freundeskreis for many years.
