All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

For all
Human rights in the world are in a bad way. In many parts of the world, but also on our own doorstep, they sometimes seem buried, muzzled and motionless. Have people forgotten this universal and inalienable good?
The Human Rights Charter from 1948 is one of the most translated texts in the world and it contains an idea: the idea that all people are equal, free and valuable.

“The Voice of Humanity”, the grand opening of the theater season in Duisburg, is a quote from Beethoven's only opera “Fidelio”. Under this title, hundreds of singing citizens of Duisburg's urban society will gather on the square in front of the theater on 20 September to “awaken” the “giant of human rights” sleeping under the Place before the opera/ King Heinrich Square together with an ensemble of singers, actors, dancers and, of course, the audience - with music, text, sound, movement, emotion, community and the composition by Israeli composer Amir Shpilman for a 300-member choir, which also invites all audience members to sing along. - Afterwards, the concert performance of “Fidelio” will celebrate its opera premiere in the neighboring Philharmonie Mercatorhalle.

From September 1, when the UFO will have landed, König Heinrich-Platz will gradually be transformed into a human rights assembly and declamation square - a playground for human rights giants: everyone is invited to share thoughts, collaborate, talk to each other and get creative. As part of the season opening, a “sound cell” will also be set up, which will be filled with the voices of the city, with stories and ideas on the subject of human rights - until the UFO takes off again in December.
