The Romanian bass Beniamin Pop comes from Bistritz and trained as a singer with Marius Vlad at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. He was a finalist in the Belvedere Competition in 2018 and the Virginia Zeani Competition in 2019 and also completed a number of master courses with Kammersängerin Linda Watson, Bo Skovhus, Franz Grundheber and Peter Seiffert. At the opera house in Cluj-Napoca Beniamin Pop sang roles including Lodovico (Verdi ‘Otello’), Monterone (Verdi ‘Rigoletto’), Samuel (Verdi ‘Un ballo in maschera’) and Angelotti (Puccini ‘Tosca’). He gave guest performances in Bucharest as the Lackey / Truffaldino (Richard Strauss ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’). Beniamin Pop was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s Opera Studio from 2016 to 2018 and has been a full ensemble member since the beginning of the 2018/19 season. He has been heard in Düsseldorf and Duisburg as Masetto (Mozart ‘Don Giovanni’), A Monk (Verdi ‘Don Carlos’), Count Ceprano (Verdi ‘Rigoletto’), Montano (Verdi ‘Otello’), Angelotti (Puccini ‘Tosca’), Surin (Tchaikovsky ‘Queen of Spades’), Rocking Chair / Tree (Ravel ‘L’Enfant et les sortilèges’), Colline (Puccini ‘La Bohème’) and Melisso (Handel ‘Alcina’).
