Peter Nikolaus Kante

Soloist
The baritone Peter Nikolaus Kante trained as a vocalist at the Academy of Music in Cologne. He gained his first stage experiences at the Cologne Opera Studio and at Stadttheater Hagen. Peter Nikolaus Kante has been an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 1989. Here he has sung Bartolo (Rossini ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’), Biterolf (Wagner ‘Tannhäuser’), Klingsor (Wagner ‘Parsifal’), Don Pasquale (Donizetti) and has taken on important roles in modern operas such as Udo Zimmermann’s ‘Die wundersame Schustersfrau’ and in Berg’s ‘Wozzeck’ and ‘Lulu’. Numerous guest performances have taken him to Montepulciano, Staatsoper Hannover and Cologne Opera. In previous seasons Peter Nikolaus Kante has appeared in many productions including as Bassa Selim (Mozart ‘Die Entführung aus dem Serail’), Prince Lippert-Weylersheim (Kálmán ‘Die Csárdásfürstin’), Antonio (Mozart ‘Le nozze di Figaro’) and the Major Domo (Richard Strauss ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’), Bonzo (Puccini ‘Madama Butterfly’), Sagrestano (Puccini ‘Tosca’), Deubeltroll (Lange ‘Die Schneekönigin’) and Edward Popplewell (Reynolds ‘Die Geisterritter’). As a visiting lecturer he teaches acting at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. He has also given acting training to members of the Opera Studio since the beginning of the 2014/15 season.
