Mezzo-soprano Valerie Eickhoff completed her training as a singer with Konrad Jarnot at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. Various different scholarships and master courses, with Brigitte Fassbaender, Bernarda Fink and others, gave her the opportunity to continue her development as a musician. She was a member of the Niederrhein Opera Studio in the 2018/19 season, singing roles such as the Second Lady (Mozart ‘Die Zauberflöte’), Fyodor (Mussorgsky ‘Boris Godunov’) and Cupido (Offenbach ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’). After a year with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s Opera Studio, where she sang the Shepherd (Ravel ‘L’Enfant et les sortilèges’), the Sandman (Humperdinck ‘Hänsel und Gretel’), Annina (Verdi ‘La traviata’) and Kate Pinkerton (Puccini ‘Madama Butterfly’), Valerie Eickhoff became a member of the full ensemble at the beginning of the 2020/21 season. In addition to her opera performances, she also regularly gives Lied recitals.
In the summer of 2021 she made her debut as the Stable Girl (Humperdinck ‘Königskinder’) at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl. She has attracted wider attention at international competitions such as Neue Stimmen and the Glyndebourne Opera Cup, and in September 2021 she won Third Prize in the singing category of the ARD Music Competition. In January 2022, she went on to win prizes in two categories at the Emmerich Smola Awards: both the Media Award for Young Opera Stars and the Orchestral Prize.
