Principal Guest Conductor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2017 and Musical Director of the Belcanto Opera Festival Rossini in Bad Wildbad since 2012, the Italian Antonino Fogliani has become one of the most highly regarded musicians of his generation internationally and is considered one of the leading bel canto conductors. He initially graduated in piano before studying conducting with Vittorio Parisi at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. Since his acclaimed debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in 2001, Antonino Fogliani has made guest appearances at the most renowned international opera houses, festivals and orchestras, including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro alla Fenice in Venice, Palau des Arts in Valencia, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Grand-Théâtre de Genève, Arena di Verona, Zurich Opera House, Stuttgart State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Semperoper Dresden, La Monnaie Bruxelles as well as Covent Garden and the Bregenz Festival. He has also made various CD recordings. In 2018, the then Italian President Sergio Mattarella honored him with the title of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Antonino Fogliani has conducted numerous performances at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, including Donizetti's “I puritani”, “Don Pasquale”, “Maria Stuarda”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, “L'elisir d'amore” and “La Fille du régiment”. He has also conducted Mozart's “Don Giovanni” and “The Magic Flute”, Rosssini's “La Cenerentola”, “Il barbiere di Siviglia” and “L'italiana in Algeri”, Verdi's “La traviata”, “Don Carlo”, ‘Macbeth’ and “Otello”, Puccini's “Madama Butterfly”, ‘Tosca’ and “La Bohème”, as well as “Adriana Lecouvreur” (Cilea), “La sonnambula” (Bellini), “Dialogues des Carmélites” (Poulenc) and “The Tales of Hoffmann” (Offenbach).

In the 2025/26 season, Antonino Fogliani will conduct the premieres of “Prima la Mamma!” (Donizetti) and “Il trovatore” (Verdi) and conducts the revivals of “Die Zauberflöte” (Mozart) and “Turandot” (Puccini).
