Uwe Schröter

Ballet Master
Uwe Schröter was born in Stuttgart, where he received training as a classical dancer at the John Cranko School. In 1984 he took up his first engagement at the Saar State Theatre of Saarbrücken. From 1987 onwards he danced for companies led by Youri Vámos in Dortmund, Bonn und Basel. As soloist he was to be seen in ballets like “Swan Lake”, “Lucidor”, “The Nutcracker” and “Vathek”. During his time in Basel he took over responsibility for rehearsals in 1993, until Youri Vámos took him to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 1996. Besides rehearsing and supervising the works of Vámos himself he has also gone to hand for other such distinguished choreographers as Nils Christe, Mats Ek, Itzik Galili, Mathew Hart, Jirí Kylián, Hans van Manen, John Neumeier, Uwe Scholz and Heinz Spoerli. He rehearsed works by Youri Vámos with companies including those of the Bonn Opera, the Hannover State Theatre, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Leipzig Opera, the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe, the Verona Arena, the Istanbul State Opera and the Prague National Theatre. Under Martin Schläpfer’s direction Uwe Schröter has been responsible for works by George Balanchine, Nils Christe, Merce Cunningham, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Antoine Jully, Hans van Manen, Amanda Miller, Jerome Robbins, Remus Sucheana, Twyla Tharp, Antony Tudor, Martin Schläpfer, Jiri Kilián, Marco Goecke, Paul Taylor und Ben J. Riepe. He is looking forward to new challenges under the ballet direction of Demis Volpi.
