Sami Luttinen

Born in Finland, bass Sami Luttinen studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Before becoming an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 1997, he was employed at the Kiel Theatre from 1995. He has performed at various music festivals and is a regular guest at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Finnish National Opera. In 2000 he made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in 2006 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He has worked throughout Europe with conductors such as Roger Norrington, Jirí Kout and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. His extensive repertoire includes Mozart roles such as the Commendatore ("Don Giovanni"), Sarastro ("The Magic Flute") and Bartolo ("Le nozze di Figaro"), as well as Raimondo (Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor"), Banco (Verdi's "Macbeth"), Philip II and Grand Inquisitor (Verdi's "Don Carlo"), Ramfis (Verdi's "Aida"). The Wagner roles of Daland ("Der fliegende Holländer"), Fasolt and Fafner ("Das Rheingold"), Hunding ("Die Walküre"), Hagen ("Götterdämmerung"), Gurnemanz ("Parsifal") are now also part of his repertoire, as are Gremin (Tchaikovsky "Eugene Onegin"), John Claggart (Britten "Billy Budd"), General Polkan (Rimsky-Korsakov "The Golden Cockerel"), Count Waldner (R. Strauss "Arabella"), Faust (Prokofiev "The Fiery Angel"), Hebrew (Saint-Saëns "Samson et Dalila"), Zavyol Prokofievich Dikoj (Janáček "Katja Kabanova") and Kadmos (Henze "The Bassarids"). In the 2022/23 season, Sami Luttinen will take on the roles of Robert (Wittenbrink "Comedian Harmonists in Concert"), Timur (Puccini "Turandot"), Sarastro, Thibaut d'Arc (Tchaikovsky "The Maid of Orleans") and Comtur at Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
