Theater Duisburg – Opernfoyer
19:00
What may be said, sung, or thought—and who gets to decide? Theater Duisburg is a space for art—and a witness to its own era. During the Nazi dictatorship, repertoires were controlled, Jewish and politically undesirable artists were ostracized, and the stage was co-opted to project the image of a supposedly monolithic nation. What does this history reveal about art, power, and freedom of thought?
In our discussion-concert "Duisburgliebe", we look back—and turn our gaze boldly toward the present: How free is art today? Where does it come under pressure, and where is dissent required? We view the stage as a public space—a place where voices can be heard, ideas can collide, and artistic perspectives can be explored. Through a dialogue interwoven with music, we champion the freedom of art—the right to be provocative, to challenge boundaries, and to think differently. Because an open society requires free art.
Note: Please be aware that the opera foyer is not wheelchair accessible.
