Yo soy María - Ich bin María

Drawing inspiration from Astor Piazzolla’s “María de Buenos Aires,” the Spielclub of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, in collaboration with the Zupforchester NRW and the Stadtoper Community Music Project, presents a musical-theatrical exploration of tango. What role models, stories, and realities can be conveyed through this music and dance? And who is María, who in Piazzolla’s opera becomes the embodiment of tango?

In a collage of scenic, musical, and performative fragments, a search unfolds for the multifaceted and contradictory protagonist, navigating between myth and the present—and always to the rhythm of tango.
