Spectacularly set to music Grail epic about temptation, compassion and redemption
Bühnenweihfestspiel in three acts
Music and text by Richard Wagner

Co-production with the Grand Théâtre de Genève

approx. 5 hours, two intervals
For all from 16 upwards
The king dies. Amfortas, leader of the Grail Brotherhood, is tormented by a wound that will not heal - struck by his arch-enemy Klingsor, to whom he also lost the Holy Spear of Christ that was guarded by the Brotherhood. Day after day, the Knights of the Grail are forced to watch helplessly as Amfortas dies of pain and guilt. Only a prophecy gives them hope: a “pure fool” will one day redeem the suffering king through his compassion and win back the Holy Spear, which the fallen Grail knight Klingsor guards in his magic garden. And then Parsifal knocks on the gates of the Grail Castle...
Current notice: Unfortunately, during technical preparations, we recently discovered that some of the scenery for Act 2 had been damaged by moisture during storage and cannot be repaired. In consultation with the production team, we will therefore perform Act 2 in an adapted scenic solution with a reduced stage design. We will perform the first and third acts unchanged, as in the premiere in September 2023. Thank you for your understanding.
